Christmas Number 1! Who is in the running?

Christmas Number 1! Who is in the running?
December 15, 2016 LearnMusic.Guide

We are now in the midst of December, with just over two weeks to go to the big day, we take a look who might be in the running for this year’s most coveted top spot.

Let’s get the X Factor winner over and done with. Each year the X Factor winner releases a single, in a bid to reach number one. In the early 2000s the X Factor winner claimed Christmas number 1 a total of seven times. However last year’s winner Louisa Johnson, only managed to get to number nine. Will the X Factor winner do any better this year?

What better way for Sir Cliff Richard to make his comeback than with an attempt at a Christmas number 1! He has done it before with Saviours Day and Mistletoe and Wine! The question is whether he can do it again?

At the moment it seems James Corden can do no wrong! He has broken America, shared a car with Michelle Obama in his ever popular carpool, see here. And now he is looking to be number one for Christmas. He sings the soundtrack to the Sainsbury’s festive advert. Named The Greatest Gift, could this be his own greatest gift for Christmas 2016.

Did you know that Kylie has never had a Christmas number 1? How can that be? However she is not giving up easily and is releasing a Snow Queen edition of her Christmas Album this year, with a single to go with it? Will her song climb to the top, everybody’s free to find out….

If you are buying a Christmas single from the heart, this is the one for you. In previous years choirs have done notoriously well with the Military Wives and NHS choir both finding themselves in pole position. This year it is the turn of London Hospices Choir, made up of staff and volunteers from hospices across the capital. Their song is a cover of Mike and The Mechanics, In The Living Years.

Are trolls even allowed to qualify for a Christmas number 1? Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick have released a cover of True Colours by Cindy Lauper, part of the soundtrack to their new film Trolls….Apparently it tugs on the heart strings, let’s just hope it is not hard on the ears!

Whilst you might be a little too late to make an attempt on the year’s number 1, there is always Christmas 2017. Why not have some singing lessons online.

I don’t want a Christmas number once, just because its someone evolved on the x factor. Just doesn’t feel natural to me. Christmas is about singing from the heart, not being manufactured or the worlds best singer. Whilst I like something original rather than tired old Christmas songs that have been done over and over, I do LOVE the Living years as a song and not traditionally Christmas. Its also for charity and is not about an individual star. I bet many of the people in the choir grew up believing they couldn’t sing and what not, yet here they are hopefully at number 1! Who knows what you can achieve if you just give it ago – so Living Years you have my vote! Now I need to find singing lessons on LMG and join you for next year 😉
