Meet Mary Hvizda aka the “grandma drummer”. Two years ago Mary’s videos went viral across the US after she went into a local music store and started rocking out. Mary had played drums as a teenager, when her band broke up she sold her drum kit and stopped playing. But years later her love for the drums has not changed.

Mary is the living proof that people of any age can play whichever instrument they want, as long as they have the will:

The story of Dean Zimmer is a truly inspirational one which smashes down barriers and shows what can be achieved when we try. Dean Zimmer was born with a rare congenital disorder. The illness makes it very difficult for him to move his joints and Dean is restricted to a wheelchair. However, Dean was determined that this would not prevent him fulfilling his life long ambition of becoming a professional drummer and joined a band which has worked with Thin Lizzy, Foghat and Styx.

When a new musician starts to learn any instrument we often become frustrated and tempted to throw in the towel. Stories like Dean Zimmer encourage us to keep trying and keep practising as we never know how far our determination can take us.
