Christmas is a time when we hear songs and carols over, over and over again. Surprisingly we never seem to tire of the old favourites, “Fairytale of New York” by the Pogues being the nations favourite. Others songs to hit the top ten are offerings from a lady called Mariah, who seemingly wants you to join her for Christmas. Or the well known charity hit from Band Aid.
Of course these are great pop songs but what about the more traditional songs from well known crooners. Having a Christmas without Bing, is like turkey without stuffing or a mince pie without sherry. Who doesn’t want to see those tree tops glisten to the backdrop of sleigh bells? Perhaps the most memorable of Christmas music is the Peter Pan of Christmas carols, Away In A Manger. It takes us straight back to childhood and back into memories. And an eye is barely left dry when the tiniest of shepherds or unruliest of angels takes to the school stage to give their rendition of this wonderful classic.
