There are many benefits associated with online saxophone lessons, including the fact that you can learn at your own pace, you can enjoy lessons whenever suits you, and you can save a lot of money in the process as well. However, one thing you do need when it comes to online music lessons is self-discipline. Knowing when to practice and how long for is important if you are to learn the saxophone, or any other instrument, effectively.
The number one rule is to make sure that you practice often. A lot of people elect to practice for several hours once a week, for example, every Sunday, and the rest of the week they do not practice at all. This is usually because they are time poor on weekdays, and feel that a quick 15-minute lesson would be of no benefit. However, this could not be further from the truth. It is actually more beneficial to do seven 15-minute music lessons online per week, as opposed to two hours on the weekend. This is because it keeps your brain active, and you are constantly learning. If you only learn once a week, you will spend half the time refreshing your memory on what you learnt the week before.
How long should you practice for? Well, how long is a piece of string? No doubt, the longer you practice, the better. But it is also important to make sure you do not burn out. Do what feels right. You know yourself whether you are practicing effectively, or you have hit a brick wall with your saxophone. Mix it up; practice for an hour one day, ten minutes the next, and so on. As long as you are constantly active, you will see results. However, there is nothing wrong with having a break from your online saxophone lessons. If you feel yourself getting frustrated and struggling to pick things up, this could be a sign that you need a couple of days off.
