Most aspiring musicians will have days where they are tempted to throw in the proverbial towel.
More often than not, people will give up during the early stages of their musical development. Some people get frustrated when they are practicing hard and they cannot yet see the results. However for a large proportion of people, it is the struggle to read music that stops them from progressing further.
After all, however can you be a good musician if you cannot read the notes, right? Wrong. Many famous musicians have carved out glittering music careers without ever being able to read a note. So who are we talking about here? Let’s start off with Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll himself. His voice was very distinctive and his guitar skills relied totally upon his own sense of music. However he could not read a note.
Inspired yet? Remember a little thing in the 1960s called Beatlemania? Rumour has it that their musical theory skills where at best, poor. And the list goes on and on.
So if you are stuck in a rut with the theory, put down the books and pick up your instrument. Play what you feel, you might just be surprised 🙂
