The Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, is nearly upon us. Fans already know that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Simon Pegg have been cast in the much awaited release. So we ask the question, who is John Williams and why is he so important to this movie?
For those not yet in the know, John Williams is a famous movie theme composer, possibly the greatest. He has enjoyed a long lasting relationship with Speilberg, working on ET, Indiana Jones and the Iconic Jaws music……Da dum, da dum….you know the one!

So does he receive the recognition he deserves? Whilst most people would not recognise Williams if he was walking down the street, his industry understands his genius and he has been nominated 45 times for an Academy Award.
Although Hollywood seem to revere him, the wider music community still regard film composers as inferior to those who work on concert pieces. Yet Williams is not concerned. He was once approached by Placid Domingo who wanted to entice Williams into writing for the Los Angeles Opera, but Williams is clearly attracted to the big screen and turned it down.
